Water rings
In the series water rings, the million-dollar program and the suburb are in focus. Modernist architecture with its endless lined-up windows that at first glance look the same.
I've seen these buildings since childhood, stayed in those environments, and live in one of the suburbs myself. To me and before my eyes they are teemering with life, every rectangular window hides a person or family.
A life story that within the similar walls has its own voice and tone. A red flower on the balcony or a sky blue curtain subtly breaks the pattern against the gray concrete.
It's just these subtle details that I'm stuck with and want to capture. There is something exciting about repetitions and how to break them with small means.
Purely motif-wise, modernist architecture is grateful - the aesthetic of which they appeal to me. I like to build up denominations in gray, layer upon layer until I find the right one.
The small shifts in the gray that give color, hot and cold, red and blue. A laborious task that takes a long time, but a necessary evil for it to be right.
