Lisa Wallert

In the grey, 2019

The water was grey, the sky was grey. Nature had withdrawn its colours, and time had ceased to exist. There they were, in the grey. The islands. Vibrant black in the grey. The reflection almost seemed more corporeal than the rock, and another world that can only be sensed was unsealed. We may rarely see what is hidden in the reflection, under the surface. In the grey.

Lisa Wallert works with ceramic sculpture through a material and spatial process. Her work is sprung from a bodily sense in relation to the material, tactility and the transience of everything. She makes unique pieces in black stoneware clay, fired in reduction. The firing gives the objects a metal-like apperance and a sense of hardness, in contrast to the actual fragility of the material. She is inspired by nature, but also popular culture, such as dark romanticism, horror and Sci-Fi. Black Metal is also a great source of inspiration. Opposites that enforce eachother is an important part of her work, both conceptual and visual. Lisa Wallert combines static and organic, attraction and fear, life and death.
