The title is Norwegian because the Norwegian word “rett” contains a duality; it can mean both “straight” and “right. We use “rett” to determine if something is “right or wrong”, but also to describe the direction/level of a subject or object; “the shelf must be straight” or “walk straight ahead”.
The concept in Rett concerns problems around measure-ability. It is human to seek static solutions, invent units that translate into hard numbers. In lots of cases, these units will become limiting and misleading. The world of fine arts is an obvious example, where the measurement of an artwork's value is frequently discussed. Market value, material value, and cultural value differ and give various answers. The pieces that break established parameters and burst outside of the contemporary frames often end up as more valuable than the works limited by strict frames and “correctness”.
